A wall gallery is an exhibition of photographs, posters or paintings, creatively arranged on a wall using picture frames.
Wall galleries have become hugely popular in recent years, providing an easy way to update your interiors, transform bland walls, create a focal point in your home, and bring character and personality to your living space. life. Instead of using paint or wallpaper, you can do it with a wall gallery, and it can be placed anywhere in your home, although the most popular places are often the hallway, the stairs or the living room.
Creating a display wall doesn't have to be complex or take hours. It's about collecting your favorite pieces that showcase your personality. Experiment with different styles and types of wall art, whether it's a mix of bright color prints, quirky patterns, typographic images or your favorite family photos.
There are two main options for wall galleries:
- You can create a display wall using your own photographs and artwork and purchase appropriately sized frames to hang them on the wall.
- You can purchase a set of framed wall art prints (often themed, such as botanical or landscape prints), which you can simply hang on the wall.
1. Collect
Start building a collection of what you love, whether it's original artwork, handmade prints or photography. When you start collecting, think about the scale of your eventual collection and the layout you want it to have. Do you want them all to be the same size? Or work with a mix of different sizes? Look for inspiration online, in your favorite cafes and restaurants, or at trade shows and home shows.
2. Create a theme
When you have a selection that works for you, choose your favorites and group them by themes, such as family, memorable places, happy events, or another mix that is close to your heart. For artwork or prints, choose colors that complement your bedroom decor or suit the tone of the room you want to display them in. Or, quite simply, those that make you happy!
3. Even or odd?
Decide whether odd or even numbers are more appropriate. Sometimes even numbers work well in regimented groups of the same size, but more random arrangements or collections work better with odd numbers.
4. Measure
Measure your wall space and lay your collection on the floor. Take a step back and look at them all together (leave some space between them for the frames). Does an element seem incorrect to you? If so, remove it. Take a picture of your possible combinations.
5. Choose your frames
When you are happy with the layout, choose your frames. You have to decide whether you want them to blend into the wall, contrast with it, or stand out on their own. Decide if you want them all to be exactly the same or if you want lots of different colors. A white or neutral frame is perfect for Scandinavian-style interiors, while black frames work best for contemporary or industrial interiors.

You will also need a pencil and eraser, a ruler, and putty in case you make a mistake. Lightly draw on the walls where the top corners of the frames will be. Measure and mark how deep in the frame you want the nail holes drilled. Start hammering and bring them all up. Use a spirit level to make sure everything is straight.
8. The final look
Watch and enjoy the glory of your creation. Remember that your gallery can easily be replaced or updated with new favorites whenever you want. For example, if you have art prints, you can change them for a new season and introduce a fall/winter theme. You just need to decide what you want to remove and reassemble it or replace it with a similar sized piece.
